A book about Brisbanes Federation
and Interwar housing styles. This guide is based on Judys
research into Workers Dwellings built between 1910 and 1940.
It is a must for anyone restoring their home, renovation
builders and architects.
Highlights:
Most of the photographs and plans used to illustrate this book come from photographs of Workers Dwellings in Annual Reports and pattern books published in the 1920s and 1930s by the State Advances Corporation, the body responsible for public housing in Queensland.
While Judy is responsible for the 1990s photographs, the bright cover and books layout, she was assisted by Rod Fisher and the University of Queenslands Applied History Centre.
Workers Dwellings are not rows and rows of identical houses. They were designed by architects who created many innovative designs to satisfy their clients as is illustrated in this guide.
If you live in a Queensland Workers Dwellings, then you live in home that was well built using quality materials. If your home was built between 1910 and 1940 then it is one of the 11,603 erected in Brisbane and 19,058 erected in Queensland.
